In the heart of Brazil, the majestic Amazon Rainforest faces an existential threat as deforestation and degradation continue to ravage its precious ecosystems.

This vital biome, home to unparalleled biodiversity and indigenous communities, is under siege, with vast swathes of forest falling to the relentless march of human activity.

The consequences are critical: loss of habitat for countless plant and animal species, degradation of vital ecosystem services, and a looming threat to the cultural heritage of indigenous peoples who have stewarded these lands for millennia.

Solution

Enter a transformative solution: a reforestation project in the states of Rondonia and Mato Grosso, aimed at restoring and protecting the Amazon's tree canopy.

By planting native tree species, tailored to the unique needs of each site, we're not just replanting trees; we're sowing the seeds of renewal and resilience.

These newly planted trees will serve as vital habitats for a myriad of plant and animal species, fostering biodiversity and improving ecosystem health.

Moreover, they'll act as guardians of soil and water quality, mitigating the impacts of climate change and safeguarding the Amazon's ecological integrity for generations to come.

Implementation plan

Our implementation plan is rooted in collaboration and community engagement, working hand in hand with local stakeholders and indigenous communities.

From site selection to tree planting and maintenance, our local planting partner — Forest Trends — will ensure that the principles of sustainability and respect for local knowledge guide every step of the process. Training and capacity-building initiatives will empower indigenous peoples to take an active role in forest restoration efforts, fostering a sense of ownership and stewardship over their ancestral lands.

Through transparent monitoring and evaluation, we'll track our progress, ensuring that our actions align with our conservation goals and the needs of both people and nature.

Team

Founded in 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation is the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees. Together with our partners, we have helped plant more than 500 million trees in neighborhoods, communities, cities, and forests throughout the world. Our vision is to lead toward a world where trees are used to solve issues critical to survival.

By joining forces with Humance, we’re amplifying our impact and empowering individuals to make a difference in their communities. Together, we’re continuing to carry out our mission to inspire people across the globe to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees.
